Raised Panel Card with Silly Old Bear

Today’s card features the Silly Old Bear Suite Collection from Stampin’ Up!, along with a fun raised panel technique that adds lots of dimension without making the card overly complicated. Have you tried this yet? Promise, its easy.

Creating the Raised Panel Background

The background is definitely the star of this card!

I took a piece of Very Vanilla card stock 3-3/4 x 5-1/4 and embossed with the Hundred Acres 3D embossing folder. But… first make sure to lightly rub some Peaceful Pine ink on the debossed side of your embossing folder.
Cut embossed piece into several narrow vertical strips. Cuts are at: 3/4″, 1-1/4″, 2″, 2-1/2″, and 3″.
Take another piece of 3-3/4 x 5 Very Vanilla and adhere strips to it. Every other strip is adhered with Foam Adhesive Strips or you can use dimensionals, you’ll just need a lot. This creates the raised panels. Add to card front

Tip: When cutting your strips, keep them in their original order. That way, when you place them onto the card, the pattern continues naturally from one panel to the next.

That Sweet Silly Old Bear 🐻

Of course, this card needed our lovable bear!

I added the bear toward the lower right side of the card and paired him with his little honey pot. Placing him on the tree stump gives the image a nice foundation and helps him stand out against the patterned background.

I love the soft blue (Hydrangea Hue) of the honey pot against all those earthy greens (Peaceful Pine) and browns (Pecan Pie)—and that dripping honey (Golden Glow) adds the perfect little pop of golden color.

Why I Love This Card

One of my favorite things about this design is that the raised panel technique. You know you can do this Designer Series Paper! I think you should give it a try. Change the paper, focal image and sentiment, and you could easily use this same layout for birthdays, Christmas, thank-you cards, masculine cards and more.

And it’s a wonderful way to use some of those beautiful papers we’ve been saving because they’re too pretty to cut! 😉
